Former Charlies Angel Cheryl Ladd visited Palm Beach with her husband Brian Russell yesterday to help raise funds for Food For The Poor.
The Food For The Poor charity was formed in 1982 and is an ecumenical Christian nonprofit organization based in Coconut Creek, Florida, that provides food, medicine, and shelter, among other services, to the poor in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has been hugely successful as over 98,000 homes have now been provided to those in desperate need of housing in those areas. Further, some $9 billion worth of food, medicine, housing materials, water and other aid has also been sent to help those in need.
Ferdinand Mahfood began Food For The Poor some 33 years ago and today members of many Christian denominations, including Episcopalian, Lutheran and Roman Catholic, provide the core of the organization, preaching and personally distributing necessary items in the poor countries, while going abroad to seek more donations. Members of the laity are also heavily involved, providing aid and resources both alongside clergy and in places where there are few or no clergy members.
The Food For The Poor – The Fine Wines & Hidden Treasures gala event was held at distinguished Palm Beach philanthropists Donald and Melania Trump’s (National Honorary Chairs) The Mar-a-Lago Club on South Ocean Blvd.
Other distinguished guests at the event were Robin Mahfood (President & CEO of Food For The Poor) and his wife Gail Mahfood (pictured above right), Angel Aloma (Executive Director of Food For The Poor) and his wife Denise Aloma (pictured above left), Patrick Park (Honorary Chair), Arlette Gordon & Elizabeth Bowden (Gala Co-Chairs), and Herme de Wyman Miro (International Chair).
The Fine Wines & Hidden Treasures 2015 committee members included Michael Dixon, Emilio Guerra, Lorrain and Malcom Hall, Helene Karp, Moneca Kaufmann, Tova Leidesdorf, Brownie McLean, Faith Morford, Michael Nadeau, Sally O’Connor, Daniella and Alfredo Ortiz, Russell Sherrill, Patsy and Leslie Spero, Mary Frances Turner, and Carol Weltz.
The Fine Wines & Hidden Treasures gala opened with a superb wine-tasting reception provided by Dreyfus Ashby & Co. and Trump Winery. The evening then culminated with a five-course gourmet dinner and wine pairing. Exotic escapes, jewelry, fine wines, and golf packages were among the varied prizes in the silent and live auctions.
The event rounded off a busy time for the organization as only hours before they had returned from a trip to Haiti with Cheryl Ladd and Brian Russell. “Helping those in such desperate need is what we are all called to do,” said Ladd. “I thank each and every person who has answered that call. Together we can bring hope and a chance for a better tomorrow for so many who fight a daily battle to survive.”

Great that she is using her time to help others in desparate need!

The thing I appreciate the most about events like that are the networking opportunities. You are all there with one goal in mind, creating value for those in need. While you are there, you have an opportunity to meet others, with the same goal. Often times, you would not normally meet these individuals in your day to day life.
My recommendation is to get yourself invited to charity events to do good for those in need, and to meet and network with others that may just have the keys to the doors you want opened up to you.
