Brooks Koepka won the U.S. Open on Sunday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, a year after his victory at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, becoming the first back-to-back winner of the national championship since Curtis Strange pulled off the repeat nearly three decades ago.

Koepka, 28, began the day holding a share of the lead with Dustin Johnson, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau at three over par, and kept his cool under pressure in the final round. The West Palm Beach native now has three career victories, adding his second major title. He finished with a 2-under-par 68 and 1 over for the tournament to beat Tommy Fleetwood by one shot.

Fleetwood became only the sixth player in tournament history to shoot a 63. The Englishman finished a couple hours before the leaders, reeling off eight birdies to post the low score of the day.

Koepka now joins Willie Anderson (1903-05), John McDermott (1911/12), Bob Jones (1929/30), Ralph Guldahl (1937/38), Ben Hogan (1950/51) and Curtis Strange (1988/89) as the only players to have ever won back to back U.S. Open titles.
