Today is a day that Orlando City Soccer fans have looked forward to for a long time. In anticipation of the 2015 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Orlando City SC will face fellow expansion club New York City FC (NYCFC) in the 12th annual Carolina Challenge Cup in front of a sold out crowd, providing a preview of their MLS opener on March 8.
Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina and for those who can’t make it, the match will be live-streamed via www.YouTube.com/TheCHSBattery.
“We’re looking forward to continuing our preseason in Charleston against some very good sides,” said Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath. “Playing against New York in front of a sold out crowd will be a good test for us as we continue to prepare for our home opener at the Citrus Bowl on March 8.”
Orlando City is currently unbeaten through its four preseason matches played against D.C. United, FC Dallas, Toronto FC and Swedish first-division team BK Häcken. Brazilian superstar Kaká made his first appearance for Orlando in the FC Dallas match, leading the Lions to a 4-0 victory with a goal and an assist.
New York has recorded one win and a loss in their two preseason matches so far. After producing a 2-0 victory over St. Mirren in their opening friendly, NYCFC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brondby in their following fixture.
Orlando City will host several events leading up to March 8 as part of Operation #FillTheBowl. Admission to many of these events includes a ticket to the historic first game. More information is available at www.OrlandoCitySC.com/FillTheBowl.
