After being selected in the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game Fan XI last week, Orlando City Soccer Club’s midfielder Kaká (pictured above) has been voted captain of the MLS All-Star team by the fans via Snapchat, receiving the responsibility to lead the league’s biggest stars in a match up against English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 29 at 9 p.m. ET at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. The match will be broadcasted live on FOX Sports 1, UniMás, TSN and RDS.
“This is amazing. It’s an amazing opportunity to be there. I grew up watching All-Star Games, NFL, NBA, and now to have the chance to play one of these games is amazing, and now I’m gifted to be the captain of the team, so thank you everybody that voted for me,” said Kaká. “I’m excited to take the Orlando City’s flag to the MLS All Star and be a part of the team. To play with the best players in America now will be nice, it will be a great game and a great experience for everybody.”
The Orlando captain was selected over USMNT captain Michael Bradley and LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane by the fans in a 24-hour voting period via Snapchat. Kaká, the winner of the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or, became the first All-Star in Orlando City MLS history last week, being named to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game Fan XI alongside some of the league’s best players.
The Brazilian playmaker ranks fourth in MLS in goals with nine, and has notched two assists. He now gets chance to pit his wits against another English Premier League side after helping Orlando City defeat West Bromwich Albion last week.
