Sir Edmund Hillary Dies
Sir Edmund Hillary, (pictured left), the first man to climb Mount Everest died today, aged 88.
For some people that will mean next to nothing but for me he was a man who helped to inspire so many people around the world.
On May 29, 1953 he was the first man, along with Sherpa Tenzing (shown above), to climb Mount Everest. This was an amazing feat as up until then no-one believed that man could climb the 29,035 feet to conquer the world’s highest mountain.
It was similar to the 4 minute mile. No-one believed that could be done either. Roger Bannister was the first to achieve that feat and today it seems like everyone can climb Everest or run the 4 minute mile.
We have much to be thankful for in life and one of life’s greats passed on today. So, when you next face a difficult moment, just stop and reflect on the way people like Hillary, Tenzing and Bannister overcame the barriers in their way. Life can give you anything you want… yes, it may be a struggle… but if you work hard and stay determined… you can win the battle.
