Surf in Central Florida

Thought you’d never be able to surf in Central Florida? Well this is the land of make believe and where dreams do come true, so why shouldn’t you be able to catch a wave or get to surf here too?  After all, you’re now able to do it on cruise ships so I guess it was only a matter of time before someone had the idea to bring it to the world’s number 1 vacation destination.

Opening in the Fall is Fantasy Surf and soon you’ll be able to  experience the rush of sliding, riding and surfing waves when the new $4 million indoor aquatic recreation venue opens.  Fantasy Surf will feature the patented FlowRider system that has the look of surfing and wakeboarding, ride of snowboarding, and tricks of skateboarding in a controlled environment so I’m told. The thrills and techniques developed from this water experience have even spawned a new competitive sport called Flowboarding.

Fantasy Surf will feature a FlowRider Double system which is 32 feet wide, 49 feet long and can accommodate 25 to 30 riders per hour. The padded walls, floor and beach is covered by a three-inch sheet of water that creates a surfable wave. This ride, with its cushioned surface, was designed for wipeouts.

“Riders will experience an adrenaline rush like no other theme park or thrill-based attraction,” said Chuck Richardson, director of hospitality and marketing. “Fantasy Surf riders will want to come back again and again as they increasingly develop their skill while cooling off in a secure, indoor environment. Plus spectators will enjoy watching as much as participants enjoy riding.”

In addition to the indoor wave experience, lite dining and a surf shop will be available. Fantasy Surf will accommodate large groups and parties and unique, memorable custom events. All are welcome. You don’t need to be staying at the Fantasy World resort, near the junction of US 192 and SR535 in Kissimmee, to take part. Prices have yet to be decided but it’s sure to be another fun place to visit .

“We are creating a Central Florida experience that will not only appeal to tourists but to school and corporate groups, board sport aficionados and people who want to learn a new sport,” said Richardson.

Approximately 300 construction tradesmen are currently working to build the 14,000 square foot  facility and once completed, Fantasy Surf is expected to be open seven days a week throughout the year. I’ll keep you updated as things develop so check back often.
