Orlando SeaWolves played their second of three games in a week as they hosted the St. Louis Ambush on Friday night at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.
In a cruel twist of fate, the SeaWolves lost with literally the last kick of the game to go down 7-6. The game started well for Orlando as goals by Thiago Freitas (pictured below) and Johnny Mendoza gave them a 2-0 lead early in the game but sloppy play gave the visitors a glimmer of hope and they pulled one back at the start of the second quarter.
Osvaldo Rojas (pictured below) scored his 10th goal of the season to put Orlando up 3-1, but just seconds later, the Ambush again responded to poor SeaWolves defensive play to cut the lead back to one.
The Ambush then turned on the heat in the second half as they scored three goals in the third quarter to take a 5-3 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
Orlando fought back to trail by a single goal as Rojas netted his second but just a minute later, the Ambush restored their two goal lead as the home side pushed forward. Amazingly, the SeaWolves then pulled it level with goals from Gordy Gurson and Freitas with some six minutes to go. Just as the game looked to be heading to overtime the Ambush won a free kick and slotted home the game winner with just five seconds left on the clock.
“Disappointing,” Head Coach Tom Traxler (pictured above) said after the game. “Any time you drag yourself back into a position to get something out of a game and you don’t, you’re disappointed.”
The SeaWolves will play their next game on the road as they head to Utica City FC on Sunday, January 27th. Kickoff for that game will be at 2:00 p.m EST.
