Aquatica Helps Break World Record For “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson”

A very important event was held at Aquatica this morning as guests were invited to participate and help set a world record to help save lives.

The park played host to the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ as lessons took place from 11am to noon. U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame member and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Ambrose “Rowdy” Gaines (pictured below with me) was also onsite to lend a helping hand with the lesson. After the world record attempt each participant received a special certificate signed by Orange County Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell who was in attendance.

Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death of children ages 1-14 and research shows that if a child hasn’t learned to swim before the 3rd grade, they likely never will. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is designed to draw attention to this issue, and encourage participation in swimming lesson programs. Tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world united for the fourth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record.

It was a great way for the home of high-speed water slides, exhilarating wave pools, remarkable animal habitats and tranquil beaches to give something back and to give valuable life lessons to those who cannot swim.
