Buffet the Manatee Gets SuperBowl Winner Right

In the battle of the Manatees it was Buffet that got it right as the Green Bay Packers ran out the winners of the XLV SuperBowl at Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas.

It was an entertaining game that ended Green Bay Packers 31 Pittsburgh Steelers 25 which is more than can be said for the entertainment. Christina Aguilera flubbed a line while singing the national anthem before the the game and the Black Eyed Peas gave a performance not many will remember.

Another thing that seemed to be missing tonight was the lack of cheerleaders on either team. Neither the Steelers nor the Packers have cheerleading squads. Four other NFL teams — New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions — also do without but it was the Steelers who were ahead of the pack when they decided in 1970 to abandon the Steelerettes, and in 1988, Green Bay decided their fans didn’t care too much for the Sideliners.

Of course, there’s arguments both ways as many folks see cheerleading as sexist while for others, cheerleading is an institution and they argue it’s a legitimate sport.  The long list of stars and politicians who have cheered either in high school or college includes Ann-Margaret, Halle Berry and Paula Abdul, along with presidents George W. Bush, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In a compelling game, Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and Nick Collins returned an interception for another score, leading the Packers to a 31-25 victory and clinch Green Bay’s fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and captured another with Brett Favre in January 1997.

The Steelers trailed 21-3 before halftime. Ben Roethlisberger got them within 28-25 midway through the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass and a nifty 2-point conversion. The Packers answered with a field goal, giving Roethlisberger one last chance.

Needing to go 87 yards in 1:59 with one timeout left, Roethlisberger couldn’t make it across midfield.

So, the Lombardi Trophy belongs to the Packers…congrats!
