Multi-platinum Irish music sensation Celtic Woman returned to North America and The Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg with their brand new show “Destiny” last night.
The performance honored Ireland’s past and brought a contemporary musical edge to songs old and new that reflected the vibrant, modern nation that Ireland has become.
Named Billboard Magazine’s No. 1 World Albums Artist six times, Celtic Woman showcases three world class vocalists – Mairéad Carlin, Susan McFadden and newest member Éabha McMahon as well as the brilliant Celtic violinist Máiréad Nesbitt, accompanied by a group of equally talented musicians and dancers. Together, their talent and charisma helped to bring centuries of musical and cultural tradition to vibrant life in the performance.
It has now been more than 10 years since Celtic Woman first captured America’s imagination with its self-titled first public television special. That historic concert performance launched a genuine cultural phenomenon, introducing millions of new fans to the group’s fresh fusion of traditional Irish music, contemporary studio craft and state-of-the-art stage production.
The only downside to the evening was the annoying “T” shaped video screen that was located behind the performers. At times it completely distracted the performance and at other times it seemed like a 1980’s video promoting Visit Ireland.
The group now continues their tour throughout America and their website shows where they’ll be performing next – http://celticwoman.com/tour-dates/
