The scoreline suggests a walk over victory for Florida Tropics in their game against Orlando SeaWolves on Saturday night in Lakeland. The truth is that it was a tight game and the final 6-3 scoreline really doesn’t do the game justice.
After a poor defeat in Baltimore last weekend, the SeaWolves took the game to their opponents and if they had take just a few of the opportunities they created, then the scoreline would look entirely different. As it is, the SeaWolves remain winless during the MASL season but you get the feeling that a good result is on the horizon.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Tropics found the back of the net when Victor Parreiras in the second quarter to take the lead. Eduardo Cruz equalized three minutes later, but Parreiras netted his second to give the home side the lead seconds before halftime.
The Tropics then doubled their lead early in the second half through a Ricardo Carvalho goal, but Jonny Mendoza’s blast and Richard Schmermund’s tap-in tied the game up at 3-3. The SeaWolves never make it easy on themselves though and 19 seconds later, Gordy Gurson put the Tropics back in the lead, one that they would never relinquish. Lucas Monteleras added a fifth halfway through the final quarter and Ricardo Carvalho scored right as the final whistle buzzer blew to give the Tropics the victory.
The SeaWolves next games will be hosting the Milwaukee Wave and Baltimore Blast next weekend on back to back days. The first game against the Wave will be on Saturday, December 21 at 7:35 p.m. ET while the Blast match will be on the 22nd at 3:05 p.m. Both games will be live on MASL.tv
