Henrik Stenson (pictured above) posted a 3-under 69 after three straight birdies during the back nine to give him a share of the 36-hole lead with Bryson DeChambeau after Friday’s second round at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
DeChambeau finished his round with an 8-iron into 7 feet for eagle on the par-5 16th and an approach to 4 feet for birdie on the 18th, giving him a 66 and only his third time with a share of the 36-hole lead on the PGA Tour.
“I think every week I’m good enough to win or play my best,” he said. “It’s just sometimes a kick here, a break here and that’s just what happens.”
Stenson and DeChambeau were at 11-under 133, two shots clear of PGA Tour rookie Talor Gooch (70).
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, had a frustrating day shooting an even par 72 as he fell out of the top 10 on the leaderboard after an impressive first day in Orlando. The eight time champion at Bay Hill started with a bogey at the first and eventually settled just inside the top 20 after a 4-under 140 through 36 holes.
Woods didn’t play particularly badly but nothing seemed to work out for him on the day and he now trails co-leaders Stenson and DeChambeau by seven strokes.
