Henrik Stenson (pictured above on number one tee) moved into contention at Bay Hill during the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Looking every bit the world’s No. 3 player, Stenson carded a bogey-free six-under par 66 to move to 16-under for a two-shot lead over overnight leader Morgan Hoffmann.
Large crowds were at Bay Hill on Saturday and most of them were following world number one Rory McIlroy. McIlroy was giving them something to get excited about as he moved to 12 under par following birdies at the 9th, 12th and 13th holes but he then bogeyed the next three holes and shot a 1-under 71. He sits seven shots back at 9-under and completed the day tied in twelfth position.
Meanwhile, Hoffmann rarely showed the command he had during his opening 36 holes. The 25-year-old entered the day with a three-shot lead, but carded a lackluster 1-under 71. Hoffmann managed just three birdies to the nine he managed on Friday.
The day belonged to Stenson though as he caught fire late during the third round with two birdies and an eagle on his final four holes. The man himself is not getting carried away though as he remarked “A lot of things can happen in 18 holes, we’ve seen that.”
