LA Galaxy punishes Orlando City to take away victory
Orlando City lost 1-0 to LA Galaxy on Friday evening in front of a reported 24, 712 fans at Orlando City Stadium.
Orlando walked away from the game feeling hard done by after failing to trouble the scoresheet from 19 total shots. Jonathan dos Santos scored for the visitors in the 19th minute with a neat side foot finish to evade the diving Brian Rowe in the Lion’s goal and when Nani failed to convert a 31st minute penalty kick to level things up, the writing was on the wall for City’s fourth loss at home this season.
LA Galaxy broke a four game losing streak with the win as keeper David Bingham made six saves as the visitors played their second game without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the star forward banned for two games for violent conduct in a previous game.
Orlando had 64.5 percent of the possession in the second half but lack of fire power in the forward line cost the home side dearly. After the game Orlando Head Coach James O’Connor said: “Before the game, if you were to say this is what we’re going to have, the logical solution would be, 19 shots, seven on target, you would think, ‘Oh we’re probably going to get at least a goal, maybe a couple more. I think that’s where it becomes incredibly frustrating.”
