Orlando City Soccer Club continued it’s big build up to it’s season opening game against New York City FC tonight with its Purple Pride 5K.
The officially timed 5K race began at 6.30pm but all of the Orlando City “purple” game day festivities including purple confetti, streamers and purple glow sticks were in evidence a couple of hours before the race began. Approximately 2,000 people took place in the 5K (3.1 miles) race and it was absolutely fitting that a Brazilian should win the event.
Fredison Costa, the 4 time Disney Marathon champion, romped home in just over 16 minutes while the ladies winner was Heather Schulz who came third in her section at Disney.
The top three winners will be recognized on the pre-game Fan Zone stage at the inaugural match and all the proceeds raised will help to to fund youth soccer scholarships.
