The Young People’s Concerts (YPCs), presented by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and sponsored by Walt Disney World Resorts, will celebrate the one millionth student who has seen a Young People’s Concert at the Bob Carr Theater during its 25th Anniversary Season.

Presented to more than 70,000 students annually through 33 total concerts, the Young People’s Concerts include performances for 3-5th grade students in Orange County Public Schools; 5th Grade Students from Osceola County at the Osceola County School for the Arts; 5th grade students from Volusia County School Districts, and more than 6,000 students from local public, private, and homeschool groups.

“As a result of the 25-year partnership between the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Orange County Public Schools, more than one million students have experienced the power of live orchestral music,” said Scott Evans, senior administrator, visual and performing arts, Orange County Public Schools. “This partnership has effectively eliminated the barriers for all OCPS students and expanded arts learning beyond our classroom walls.”

Public performances begin on Wednesday, October 4 at noon at the Bob Carr Theater and continue on Wednesday, October 11 at noon; Monday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. and noon; Wednesday, November 1 at noon (Sensory-Friendly); and Wednesday, November 8 at noon. Tickets are $8 per person with group rates available for purchase of 20 or more. www.orlandophil.org/family-friendly.

The 2017 Young People’s Concert, entitled Celebrate! commemorates special events and important times in history, a reflection of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s 25th Anniversary Season. The concert features well-known composers, including Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, John Williams, Handel, Rimsky-Korsakov, and more. In addition to a full orchestra concert, dancers from the Orlando Ballet and local professional singers take the stage alongside the orchestra. Stunning visuals are displayed throughout the performance to reinforce learning and engagement, and the entire presentation is narrated by professional actors.

As part of the 25th Anniversary Season, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra is presenting its first Sensory-Friendly concert presentation specifically for children with autism, Asperger’s, or other sensory processing disorders.

“We feel this is a terrific time to provide this special service to our community,” says Dr. Leia Barrett, director of education for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. “Several schools with high need populations attend our YPCs and love them and we wanted to ensure that this concert is a truly special experience for their students.”

The 2017 YPC season also marks the first time in 10 years that the Orlando Philharmonic has traveled to Volusia County to present its Young People’s Concerts at the Peabody Auditorium thanks to support from the Volusia County School Board and Daytona Symphony Society.

“I’m thrilled that Volusia County students will once again participate after a 10-year hiatus,” said Dr. Mary Palmer, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra vice president and president elect. “Classroom materials help teachers prepare students to fully engage in the concerts, and to make the music their own to last a lifetime.”

Thanks to funding from the Duke Energy Foundation, select schools from Seminole County School District will receive 100 free tickets to any Young People’s Concert.

Funding from Dr. Phillips Charities and Osceola County Public Schools makes the concerts at the Osceola County School for the Arts possible each year.

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra is supported by United Arts of Central Florida and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
