International Drive is getting a new roller coaster. Billed as the “Polercoaster”, the new ride will become the world’s tallest roller coaster at some 570 feet! That will also make it nearly three times higher than both Disney’s Expedition Everest and Universal’s Rip Ride Rockit coasters as well as roughly 130 feet taller than the 35-story SunTrust Center in Downtown Orlando!
A press conference is to be held on June 5th but its now known that the owners of the currently under construction, Mango’s Tropical Cafe, on International Drive, are behind the scheme to be built near the Sand Lake Road and I-Drive location.
The design of the Polercoaster will include an observation platform at the top that will house retail, a restaurant and event space, while the coaster track winds around the structure.
Early indicators are that the ride will cost around $18 per rider and that it can handle approximately 850 to 1,600 people per hour. The cost of the coaster will range between $50 million and $60 million dollars.
