Spooky Empire’s Mayhem
Over the weekend we sent our spook, Renae, over to the Spooky Empire Convention… here’s her report…
We started our day as I usually would at any convention: I just people-watched. It’s amazing to see fans walking around in costumes of not only their favorite Horror film icons, but creating their own awesome wardrobes. Some outfits were so elaborate; they appeared to be professionally done.
As we walked through the hall of the convention center, there was lots to see prior to even entering the actual rooms. We were greeted by a large Pumpkin headed Halloween type creature that was probably upwards of 9 feet tall, flailing his arms, it was especially entertaining seeing the “regular” people walking through the hotel not understanding what they had walked into.
The meet & greet area was laid out very well, and the lines were not bad, the longest we observed was for the cast of “Holliston” and for “Pat Carroll” the voice of “Ursula” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
We also enjoyed the relaxed Q & A’s they had with numerous celebrities. Zakk Wylde was very entertaining during his Q & A, cracking lots of jokes and just being silly. I had the pleasure of meeting Zakk Wylde for the second time in my life, the first time when I was a teenager in 1988 when he was on tour with Ozzy, and I showed him a picture of him and I from 1988 and he was just stunned..it was great, he had a member of his entourage take a photo of the picture from 1988…priceless.
Being a fan of Tattoos, I was in awe of all of the amazing artists that were there. My favorite being Amy Castillo from “LA INK”, she was just as cool as she seems on the show, and just as pretty.
All in all it was a great show, even though there were a lot of people disappointed that Norman Reedus from “The Walking Dead” had to cancel, I feel it was still a great success.
