Tavistock Cup 2012 Begins

Filed under: Orlando Events,Orlando Golf |

This week is a huge week for golf in Orlando as the Tavistock Cup and the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill tournaments are set to start. We’ll be following all the action as the leading players in the world hit the fairways and greens.

Today is the start of the two day Tavistock Cup in which 24 players compete for a purse of $2,150,000. The winning team receives $600,000, second place $480,000, third $360,000 and fourth place $300,000. The Tavistock Cup is also an event that has seen more than $7 million generated for charity over its short nine year history.

The Tavistock Cup was established in 2004 and began simply as a friendly interclub match between Isleworth and Lake Nona’s golf professional members. Today, the tournament encompasses four teams as Albany and Queenwood were added in 2010 and is recognised as the World Golf and Country Club Championship.

Today sees Round 1 and that will start at 10.50am. We’ll be giving updates from time to time now that the players have arrived on the course….some of whom have arrived in grand style by helicopter!

Here’s some photos from the players arriving and you’ll find more on Facebook.com/FloridaLeisure
