Walt Disney World prepares for re-opening

Walt Disney World is getting ready to welcome back guests this week after being closed for months due to the coronvirus outbreak.

Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will reopen Saturday, July 11, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot will open July 15. The parks were closed in mid-March as coronavirus cases increased in Florida.

Walt Disney World is about to undergo a very busy week as not only are the parks seeing a phased reopening but several professional sports teams arrive to resume their paused seasons.

On Tuesday, July 7, National Basketball Association (NBA) players will start arriving for the restart of the 2019- 2020 regular season. They will be tested for coronavirus daily once they get here and they could be away from their families for more than three months. On Wednesday, July 8, Major League Soccer (MLS) players will resume their 25th season at Walt Disney World. The ‘MLS Is back’ tournament will happen at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex between July 8 to August 11.

Neither of these events will have fans in the stands. Guests hoping to go to the parks will need a park reservation and will be required to wear a face mask as well as go through temperature screenings before stepping inside the parks. Capacity will also be limited.
